Rajaji National Park spans 820 sq. km of dense Shivalik forest across Haridwar, Dehradun, and Pauri Garhwal. Established in 1983 and declared a Tiger Reserve in 2015, it's now India's 48th — home to over 500 Asian elephants, Bengal tigers, leopards, and 315+ bird species.

Just 15 km from Haridwar and 20 km from Rishikesh, this is North India's wild secret hiding in plain sight. Safari slots fill up within days of the season opening on November 15 — book early for 2026.

15 km from Haridwar · 20 km from Rishikesh · 250 km from New Delhi. Reach by road, rail, or air.

From New Delhi (250 km)

Drive via NH-58 in 5–6 hours. Overnight train to Haridwar Junction in 4.5 hours from ₹150 (Sleeper).

From Haridwar (15 km)

Auto or taxi to Chilla Gate in 25–30 minutes. Haridwar is the most convenient base for Rajaji safaris.

From Rishikesh (20 km)

Taxi to Motichur or Chilla Gate in 35 minutes. Perfect for combining yoga or rafting with a safari.

Jolly Grant Airport (55 km)

Daily flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Dehradun. Taxi to park gate takes 1.5 hours.

Rajaji is famous for its extraordinary Asian elephant population — one of India's largest — and for being the north-western distribution limit of both the Bengal tiger and Asian elephant. Declared a Tiger Reserve in 2015, it supports Project Tiger and Project Elephant. Also celebrated for 315+ bird species and exceptional accessibility — just 15 km from Haridwar.
Indian adults pay ₹150 per person. Foreign tourists pay ₹600 per person. Children (5–12 years) get 50% off. Jeep safari charges: ₹2,500 per Gypsy for Indians and ₹4,500 for foreigners (6 persons per jeep). DSLR camera fee is ₹200 (Indian) or ₹500 (foreign).
Online through the official Uttarakhand Forest Department portal (recommended — especially Nov to Feb as Chilla zone slots fill in 24–48 hours) or offline at booking offices at Chilla Gate or Motichur Gate on the day of your safari.
Rajaji National Park opens every year on November 15 and closes June 15. The park closes mid-June through mid-November during monsoon. Jhilmil Jheel Conservation Zone stays open until June 30.
Absolutely. Just 15 km from Haridwar and 20 km from Rishikesh. Most visitors take a taxi to Chilla Gate, complete the morning safari (6:00–9:30 AM), and return to their hotel by noon. Forest rest houses are also available for overnight stays.
